The Story
You're a trainee at PB Entertainment, working toward your idol debut. But you never dreamed of debuting in a co-ed group alongside your ultimate bias!
This Art Style was new to the Choices app, so it was fun to create these assets in an anime-inspired style: backgrounds with more stylized color palettes and bloomed lighting; characters with more stylized features and simplified shading.
Default character looks
Characters start with default looks that show their disparate backgrounds, how they each are from a different KPOP group with its own unique flavor.
The Love Interest, Jihoo, is featured as both Male and Female, so that the players can customize the look of their romanceable partners. It is a fun challenge to create the same character across different looks.
Debut & Festival character looks
The Characters are now debuting as a group, IDOL, so their looks had to reflect this unity while maintaining the characters’ unique styles and fashion sensibilities.
Below are looks for their debut and for a summer concert. The debut looks are light, tie-dye and denim looks.
The summer concert outfits are bright, colorful and athletic-wear-inspired.
Comeback character looks
After their debut single, the group is challenged by the company CEO to win a music award in order to keep IDOL together as a group.
They stage a comeback with urban, apocalyptic character looks for their new single and music video.
Other Characters
To fill out the world, the player encounters other KPOP groups, stylists, directors, company men and more. It was fun to create a diversity of looks while maintaining the story’s setting of Seoul.
Backgrounds
The backgrounds were developed with a more stylized look than the rest of the app to be more cohesive with the stylized character art.
Character Intro Cards
We wanted to provide a fun way for the players to learn facts about the characters in a fan-focused way.
So I developed character cards that would be like the player-character’s notebook (as the player-character was established as a KPOP fan). The writer provided the fun facts, and I created stickers to reflect them.
